Stocking o' snowmen by BaconThenEggs

If you are trading stocks you NEED to know the terms below. I have had people try to argue why they should never learn the terms used for trading stock, and it is an argument I have never understood.

If you are trading stock, you are doing yourself a disservice by not understanding what stock is and how it is traded. This guide is stock trading 101, and a must read for anyone who trades stock.

What is stock?

Stock is ownership of a company. Companies are started by individuals, usually with their own money. When the company grows beyond a certain point, the owners may consider selling part of their company to the public. They can sell 1% of the company, or all of it.

The process is heavily regulated, and a lot of information is required about the company. Certain financials, and other documents are required. Something called an IPO (initial public offering) is released, and after that the stock is publically traded.

The stock price will vary based off of how well the company is doing, and general economic news. This is because the stock price is determined by basic supply and demand. Thousands of people look at the company information, the economic landscape and make decisions to buy the stock or sell the stock based on this information.

If they think the company's next big announcement will generate a large amount of revenue, they will buy as much stock as they can. If they think the company's headed for failure, they will sell to the next bidder.

Selling Stock is a Marketplace

When stock sells there is a buyer and a seller. In order to sell your stock, you need to find a buyer. In order to buy stock, you need to find a seller. When a price is quoted, most people will look at what is called the last price. The last price is the last trade between a buyer and selling. However, there are people who put open orders (called limit orders) out there to buy or sell a stock.

Ask Price

If someone wants to sell a stock at $10, this is called the ASK. If they are the best offer out there for a stock, the ask will be listed as $10. If you pull up a stock quote you can see what I am referring to. Yahoo finance is a great source for updated quotes. GE is a great stock to use as an example.

If you want to sell you stock, the current ask price is your competition. If you are buying, the ask price is probably what you will pay if you place your order right away.

Bid Price

If someone wants to buy a stock, the offer is called a BID. So if I wanted to buy a stock at $9 it would be listed as a bid for $9. If that is the most anyone wanted to buy it for, it would be listed on the stock quote under bid for $9.

So let's say the best bid was $9 and the best ask was $10. No trades are going to take place until someone is willing to sell for less, or someone is willing to buy for more.

Those are very basic terms. Most brokerage firms have stock brokers that you can talk to who will explain it in a little more depth, and whom you can talk to for free.

When trading stock, it is not so simple that a baby can do it, there really is a lot more to it than that.

Making your own home Wheelchair obtainable. Properly the very first thing to ascertain will be the level that you'll have.

Ramp Omellete by Plantains & Kimchi

When it became apparent last month that my mom would soon be needing a wheelchair, building a wheelchair ramp for her home was moved to the top of the priority list. Wheelchair ramps come in all shapes and sizes, and many of the ramps one might see in private residences are often built without any regard to the ADA (American Disability Act) guidelines. While it's not necessary to follow these guidelines when building a wheelchair ramp in a private residence, these guidelines can help guide a homeowner as to what is safe and what is not.

If one of your parents will soon be needing a wheelchair ramp, this easy reference guide will help you design a ramp that meets the ADA safety standards as listed in the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities (www.access-board.gov/adaag).

Slope: According to the standards, the least possible slope should be used for the placement of the wheelchair ramp. While most doors open up onto level sidewalks, in the case of split levels or hillside homes, a little thought needs to be given as to what direction will provide the least slope.

Rise: The rise is the angle of ascent, and the ADA standards are for a slope of 1:12. This means that for every foot of ascent (or descent), the ramp has to be 12 feet long. For a front door that rises 3 feet above grade, the ramp must be 12 x 3, or 36 feet.

While this seems excessive, a shorter rise means that the wheelchair can't be easily pushed up the ramp. It also means that the wheelchair will be more difficult to control on the way down.

Width: The ADA standards for width is 36 inches.

Landings: Wheelchair ramps need a level landing both at the top of the ramp and at the bottom of the ramp. The landing must be at least 60" long, however, if the wheelchair needs to change direction on the landing, the landing must be 60" x 60" which will allow for adequate turning space.

Handrails: Many of the wheelchair ramps I see in my neighborhood don't have handrails. Since I worried about my mom falling off her ramp, we decided that handrails were absolutely essential. According the ADA standards, any ramp that rises for more than 6" above the ground or projects horizontally more than 6 feet should have handrails. Handrails on wheelchair ramps must be on both sides of the ramp, rise between 34-36" above the ramp, and should be continuous. If the ramp is designed with banisters, it's wise to follow the Universal Building Code and space the banisters 4" apart .

Side slope: Side slopes refer to slightly angling the ramp sideways so that water can run off. Side slopes should not be any greater than 1:50.

Edge protection: To prevent the wheels of the wheelchair from rolling off the ramp, edge protection is also important. Edge protection can be either banisters, curbs, or walls.

Will work safely in adverse weather conditions: Instead of building a wheelchair ramp out of the cheapest material possible, think ahead as to how the ramp will hold up in the weather. Wheelchair ramps should be constructed with durable material such as redwood or cedar, and designed so that water isn't able to accumulate on the surface. Water that pools can ruin the wood and create a slippery surface (especially in the winter) that can be a hazard to a person in a wheelchair.

Stocks having low price/book ratios as well as price/earnings ratios. In times past, value stocks have got appreciated greater normal earnings as compared to expansion shares (shares using higher price/book as well as P/E quotients) in a variety of places

As your frustrations mount in an ever changing stock market have you changed your investment strategy? Do you wonder who is making money in the market and how they do it? Do you read a constant flow of books teaching the hot ideas of stock market strategies? In desperation do you listen to the constant bombardment of market gurus on the financial channels?

If you see yourself in any of the above scenarios you will benefit from the 4 principles to picking winning stocks in todays stock markets. Why? Because there are an endless amount of variables that effect your investments and you need some guiding principles which we call tactical principles. These are different from strategies you employ such as buying stocks that pay dividends or diversifying your portfolio. These principles have helped all professionals stay close to profits in down markets while creating large gains in up markets.

Invest in Financially Sound Companies

Companies whose products you see everyday is a great place to start. Do you buy Clorox bleach, Campbell's soups, Dell computers, Apple iPhone or see Caterpillar equipment. They are good examples of financially sound companies. What makes a company sound financially?

To start with always look to see how their price earnings or PE ratio compares with others in the same industry. If they lag a little bit it could be because they are overlooked or if they lag a lot maybe they are in financial trouble. Read news releases, search financial websites for articles on the company and don't forget to look at the company website.

If they pay a dividend then how safe is that dividend? Is the payout ration lower then 50%? If it is then you can bet it will pay that dividend or higher for a long time. The payout ratio is the annual dividend divided by the earnings per share.

Another key ratio is the debt ratio. This tells you how much debt they have in comparison to their assets. I like to compare their debt payments to their cash flow to see how much they struggle making that payment.

Earnings and revenues are key components in a sound financial company. Do they consistently make their quarterly numbers? If so they operate under a sound conservative financial plan of operations and have a great handle on their business.

All publicly traded companies must file with the SEC so all their financial documents are available for free. Review them thoroughly. This will help you sleep at night I promise.

Invest in Sectors that are Hot

Right now technology is a hot sector because of the mobile internet and health care is not because of new government regulations curbing expenses. Although we encourage diversification we feel that you can achieve diversification through the top 6-7 sectors that are hot right now.

Under a zero interest rate environment with the federal reserve we believe that materials, industrial equipment, technology, energy, chemicals, consumer staples, and banking are the sectors to be in at the moment.

As the recessionary recovery continues those sectors will change and mature and so should your investments.

Take Profits Early and Often

Over the years I have become a proponent of taking profits early and often. Why? Because of computer or flash trading. The market can react so quick that your investments with a nice profit can become a loser in a matter of seconds. Take for instance the recent drop in the market that left P&G down from $62 a share to $30 a share due to broker error on entering a large order in the system. Sure the SEC rescinded some trades but you get the point, it happens in a flash.

Have a goal in mind for the year. Mine is 20% return on the value of my portfolio on January 1st.

A good guide as to what constitutes a good profit is when it exceeds the dividend for the year. If you own a stock that will pay you annually $300 and you have a $400 dollar profit then take the profit and trade out of the stock. Chances are it will fall back in price and you can repurchase again and again. I have repurchased Apple Computers probably 4 times this year alone in my IRA making money each time. If like Apple they don't pay a dividend assume a 3% dividend as a basis to explore reasonable profits.

Always... Always... Have Cash Available

Always try and maintain a 10% minimum cash position for special occasions. Once in a while a certain stock will for no apparent reason drop in value. It usually happens because a mutual fund or a hedge fund must liquidate a position to satisfy cash flow requirements or to pay out a large redemption.

Don't assume you should always be 90% invested. Only invest when you can buy low and make a profit when you sell high. Sometimes you may only be 40% invested just wait till the market drops 3% or more then review the investments in light of the drop.

If you institute these simple stock picking tactics in your investment portfolio you will be surprised at the returns and lack of loses you will endure compared to a buy and hold or trying to grow your portfolio using high risk small cap stocks.

With the all Federal Reserve interest rate cuts lately -- and with another expected at the end of April -- it is no surprise that many people are wondering what interest rates have to do with things that affect their lives. One of these things is the stock market.

Interest rates and the stock market

It is true that interest rates do not have a direct effect on the stock market. Instead, they have an influence on the stock market. Interest rates influence the stock market in two main ways: through companies and through economic perception. The Federal Reserve sets interest rate policy regarding the rate at which banks lend money to each other. This is an important point to be made. When an interest rate cut is made, it has certain effects on the psyche of those involved.

Interest rates and their effects on companies. This is one of the ways interest rates affect the stock market. Companies can get loans at lower interest rates when a cut is made. When interest rates go up, it costs more to borrow money. This affects overhead costs. And it means that companies' profits are affected. So if interest rates go down, the thought is that companies will spend less money and therefore have higher profits. This invites investors to put their money in the stock market, and it raises the market values. Interest rate hikes, on the other hand, can have an opposite effect in some cases.

Interest rates and economic perception. Investors can get an idea of where the economy is headed due to interest rates. The perception is that when rates are cut, the economy is being stimulated and is likely to expand. In the case of the recent interest rate cuts, many perceived that the Fed was willing to do anything to help the stock market, and this meant that there were jumps in stock values directly following the rate cuts. On the other hand, interest rate hikes put a cap on economic expansion. They can also indicate inflation fears, and this can influence the stock market.

Obviously, though, interest rates are just one factor to consider in stock investing. Your decisions should not be based solely on interest rate cuts or hikes. There are many influences on the stock market, and sometimes perception can make the market behave in ways that are contrary to conventional knowledge. The stock market is unpredictable. But it is still possible to discern general trends.

Trading Offshore Stockbrokers by Investors Europe

The Internet along with the computer has brought online stock trading available to anyone with an Internet connection and some money to invest. Having easy access to a trading account has a disadvantage. If you are not careful in selecting your stocks, you could easily lose all of your money. How to pick winning stocks will be addressed in a different article. We will concentrate here on how to open an online stock trading account.

Online stockbrokers come in two forms. The first type is what is called a discount broker. The second type is called the deep discount broker. It should be obvious that the main difference between these two types of online stockbrokers is the commissions they charge. Discount stockbrokers have commissions that range between $7 and $12 per trade. The deep discounted broker has a commission rate as low as one dollar per trade.

Regardless of which type of stockbroker you choose, you will not be dealing with a person. All stock transactions and communication will be done over the Internet. That is how they can charge such a small commission. If you need to talk to a live person, there is often a charge for that. Be aware of the fees and policy before you sign up.

It is important to know if the stockbroker you choose has real time access to stock trading prices. Sometimes there will be a fee for real-time access. Make sure the website clearly states that they offer real-time quotes. Because the commission rates on deep discounted broker's is so low, they often charge extra for real-time price quotes. If the broker you are considering does not offer these real-time quotes, look elsewhere. Unless you are a long term trader you need up to the minute quotes. The time lag between the actual quoted price and delayed price quote could end up costing you more than the commission would have otherwise been. Therefore, be prepared to pay a higher commission for a more accurate, real-time stock quote.

Once you have done your research and have chosen a broker, you will then need to complete the online application form. In most cases you can fill out the form online and submit it. Be prepared however to print out the application and send the hard copy to the broker as confirmation before you will be allowed to trade online.

Competition is very strong in this field. Because of that, you will probably not have to pay any additional fees. Many times the broker will offer incentives for you joining and trading at their site. The incentive is often a certain number of trades for free for the first month. There may be an inactivity fee, however. That means if you have not had a trade in a certain number of months, they would charge you an inactivity fee. Read the documentation closely so that you are aware of this charge. If your account is an IRA, the inactive fee does not apply.

Once your application is completed and sent to the broker, you will be instructed as to how to deposit your money with them. They may accept a credit card as deposit. If not you will have to make a physical payment into their bank. This can either be done with a check or a wire transfer. Once your account is funded, you are ready to start trading.

Looking For Ge Appliance Repair Internet Advertising For Appliance Repair Experts

Appliance Repair in BEDFORD HILLS, NY by appliancehub

Tens of thousands of workers have jobs in home appliance repair. Like any job, applicants want to set themselves apart from other job seekers. There are several ways to get appliance repair training that will help achieve that goal.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were over 33,000 jobs for home appliance repair technicians in May of 2010. About 73 percent of them are salaried employees, while the other 27% or so are self-employed individuals with their own appliance repair centers. Most of these jobs tend to be in bigger cities because the demand for maintenance and repair of home appliances is small in rural areas.

Some employers provide their own appliance repair training or send their repair technicians to classes. You may wish to seek a job first in your area and see if you can get training. If you are having difficulty finding a job because employers say you are not qualified, you could get some training on your own.

While some technicians have a specific goal of getting a job or opening a home appliance repair business, others would like additional career options. These students can consider taking classes in electronics and electronic technology. Modern home appliances have many electronic parts, so this field is partially relevant to appliance repair. Getting this training would also open up possible additional avenues of employment as compared to specific training for home appliance repair and maintenance. For example, if a job as a home appliance repair technician does not present itself, it may be possible to get a job as an electronic engineering technician or a similar job if you have such training.

An example of such an electronics training course is the degree program offered by Bramson ORT. Students may earn an Electronics Technology Associate Degree (A.A.S.). This is a course requiring 60 semester hours for graduation. Students who own such a degree would have a variety of options for getting jobs. Examples would be an electrician's assistant or a thermostat repair technician. Of course, this would also be good training for appliance repair jobs.

For those seeking a more concentrated education and training on home appliance repair, there are some land-based and online training schools for appliance repair technicians. Penn Foster is an example of an online training course. This could be enough for someone who learns well from books and videos. Others may find it necessary to attend live appliance repair training for a fuller experience and understanding of how to repair major appliances. An example of a live school is Fred's Appliance Academy. Links to those programs are below, but you should do your own research, find other schools, and collect references before deciding to purchase or attend a training course for home appliance repair.
